Teeth Cleaning

Pets need healthy teeth and gums too! We recommend you have your pet's teeth cleaned annually. Dirty teeth can lead to bad breath, gum disease, tooth loss, mouth infections and can contribute to organ failure.  85% of adult pets have periodontal disease which can lead to more serious problems if left untreated. At Crystal Mountain Animal Hospital, we will create a treatment plan that will offer a professional cleaning to remove tarter and plaque from the tooth as well as under the gum line. Polishing the teeth and applying a barrier sealant will aid in preventing the future build up of tartar.

Teeth cleaning does require that your animal be under anesthesia. Modern anesthesia has a very low risk for complications, provided that precautions are taken before, during and after anesthesia. These precautions include pre-anesthetic blood testing, intravenous catheter and fluids during the procedure, as well as cardiovascular monitoring.

Beginning Procedure

Dental procedures begin with scaling of the teeth.

Scaling

Scaling scrapes the plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line.

Polishing Teeth

After scaling, the teeth are polished in order to protect the enamel of your pet's teeth.

Removing Plaque And Tartar

Polishing removes plaque, tartar, and stains,  and makes it more difficult for plaque and debris to accumulate on the teeth.
